Gangs, gold chains, street slang, home of rap and hip-hop, setting for numerous Hollywood movies—that’s the Bronx everyone knows. But what happens just behind the rough exterior, only Anthony Gonzales knows—and it’s not any less rough. Vulgar, dirty, and animal best describe the action. There seems to be no room here for touchy-feely lovers, just the down-and-dirty meat and potatoes: fucking and getting
fucked. The Latino artist shows us the cut-and-dry world of lust and clearly defined roles, creating a thoroughly unusual and diverse book: fascinating and yet offensive, tragic and comic, shocking and nonetheless soothing.

You can tell the artist doesn’t take these clichés about obscene male fantasies seriously; rather he thoroughly enjoys playing with them. On the one hand, he uses pencil and charcoal to create monochromatic stationary scenarios, sizzling with eroticism; on the other hand, he employs vivid felt-tip strokes to lay out the no-holds-bared rawness of man-on-man sex. And yet, you will be tempted to accuse Gonzales of superficiality; underneath the surface of these merciless scenes, there’s
always a spark of humanity, emotions, the yearning for intimacy and surrender.

As a son of a single working mother, this Trinidad native discovered his passion for drawing at a young age and devoted himself and his talents to depicting his favorite superhero: Conan the Barbarian. After moving to New York City, Gonzales became a member of the Queer Men’s Erotic Art Workshop and—with the encouragement of his colleagues—went on to follow his heart and his passions. This art book contains the results of his life-long work and is his first solo publication.

Todd Yeager’s art is strong stuff. His drawings take us on a bracing and thrilling journey to the dark depths of manly desire and sexual abandon! Dirty Little Drawings
by the Queer Men´s Erotic Art Workshop

New York City six years ago – a small group of 14 young restless gay artists joined forces. Frustrated that the drawing courses on offer only had nude models in academic poses they decide to take matters into their own hands. Thus the QUEER MEN’S EROTIC ART WORKSHOP was born!

In the following years the group expanded to almost one hundred gay artists and their collaboration proved to be quite fruitful. Together they produced around 12,000 drawings – DIRTY LITTLE DRAWINGS, all in a 15x15cm format. The works of the majority of these unknown artists are as varied as the artists themselves – they run the gamut from realistic to expressionistic, sensual or even pornographic, in colour or in black-and-white. This book offers an abundance of new points of view.

Editors for this work include Robert W. Richards, in-demand designer and author of “Allure” published by Bruno Gmünder Publishing, Harvey Redding, designer and curator of countless exhibitions and Rob Hugh Rosen, interior decorator and recently appointed director of operations of the Leslie/Lohman Gay Art Foundation.

The main characteristic of the homoerotic art of Xavier Gicquel is the baroque and decorative touch that distinguishes his works in an absolutely original way in the world of gay illustration. His exuberant images live in a “rough and queeny” atmosphere, because his men are butch but usually show off camp details (for instance a very floral tattoo), they are at the same time serious and self-ironic.

Having started his career as menswear fashion illustrator and making use of sublime artistic skills, Xavier Gicquel matches the hardest fantasies of the leather and s/m imagery with an attention to everyday details which is quite unusual. Then, the sceneries where the hardest sexual intercourses take place become very realistic. Look at the choice of the wallpaper behind the couch or the elegant shirt and necktie of the well-hung gentleman in pose for the flyer of his very first Italian exhibition. These are perfect examples of his signature.

In co-operation with M.arte produzioni, the drawings of Xavier Gicquel will be exhibited in Milano from 3 to 30 June 2007 at libreria BABELE galleria, Via San Nicolao 10 (MM1-2 Cadorna). An official event of the 21st Milano International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival.

The original source of inspiration of Satt are the faces of men that strike him when they fall across his eyes by chance.Then, thanks to his art, the young boy he met at the supermarket becomes an erotic businessman seaten on an armchair with the trousers at his knees. A carpenter becomes a warrior wearing a loincloth under a shining armor who fights a dragon.

The seducing stare, the ponderous hand, the wide shoulders, the pectorals you can glimpse under the shirt... Even if lonely, massive and statuesque, the men of Satt are always deliberately elegant even in the most extreme situations and make reference to the Italian and, definitely, the Mediterranean origin of the author.

Satt favours black and white illustrations drawn with pencil and pen but sometime he sets free his imagination with colours, reaching astonishing results.

His artistic production is a continuous research on the details of the masculine body and even if sometime he oversteps toward the fantasy world, he always remains strictly faithful to the refined leit-motif of the most glamourous fashion photography.

In co-operation with M.arte produzioni, the drawings of Satt will be exhibited in Milano from 4 to 25 February 2007 at libreria BABELE galleria, Via San Nicolao 10 (MM1-2 Cadorna).

Best Gay Erotica 2007 presents Lazarov/Drub

BEST GAY EROTICA 2007 just came out. The anthology includes a comic story written Dale Lazarov, drawn by the artist Drub! The printing is superb. Drub's line work and b/w coloring looks both alt-comix cute and hippie-comix filthy, reminiscent of a sort of cross between Ilya and Robert Crumb that is still very much distinctively Drub.

Editor Richard Labonté's in his introduction: "I'd also like to single out the comix included this year by Dale Lazarov, with illustrations by Drub. "The Two Jays", as Jay Jorgensen and Jay Lawton are more commonly called, were present on the 12th Tom of Finland Foundation Erotic Art Fair (October 6 – 8 2006). The yearly held fair by the Tom of Finland foundation in West Hollywood, Los Angeles.
It’s a small “Who’s Who” that reminded me of the Anthology STRIPPED.

The carved jack-o'-lantern, lit by a candle inside, is one of Halloween's most prominent symbols. Although there is a tradition in the British Isles of carving a lantern from a rutabaga, mangelwurzel, or turnip, the practice was first named and associated with Halloween in North America, where the pumpkin was available, and much larger and easier to carve. Many families that celebrate Halloween carve a pumpkin into a frightening or comical face and place it on their home's doorstep after dark.

Black and orange are the traditional colors of Halloween. In modern Halloween images and products, purple, green, and red are also prominent.

The use of these colors is largely a result of advertising for the holiday that dates back for over a century. They tend to be associated with various parts of Halloween's imagery.

Since the beginning of the early eighties MeatMen stands for gay cartoon strips which united a large variety of artistic styles and countless different genres within a ompactly sized book. Two artists had a major impact on MeatMen: William Morgan alias Howard Stangroom (stories) and Stephen Lowther (arts) have contributed to this famous anthology, leading it to the overwhelming success of the cult-label for years. A selection of the work of both icons of American gay comic strips is now available in a single volume.

Prime Cuts collects the most differing stories – ranging from subtle humorous sketches to hardcore-scenes – which count among the most successful work published by Stangroom and Lowther over the years.
